Purification, Sin, and the Sin that Leads to Death

The Purification Process - John describes the Light, who is Christ - how His blood purifies us from all sin.

But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light,
we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.1 John 1:7

•John in the very next verses explains how Christ's blood purifies us from all sin. He said:
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. (We start as sinners, before being cleansed.)
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. 1 John 1:8-10
When you examine these verses in lieu of the verses before and after the above three, this is the meaning:
We go to the Light (Jesus) to quietly listen and watch, hoping for purification by his blood and grace.
If we go claiming to be without sin, we deceive ourselves, have no humility, and get no help, the truth is not in us.
If when he (the Light) shows us our sins and we confess them, he will forgive and purify us.
But, if when he (the Light) shows us our sins, and if we claim to be without the sin he has shown us,
thinking He is not the Truth, thinking whom we hear to be a liar, we have thus failed to repent of our sins;
and His word fails to be planted in our heart, so that it can control us in the future. Thus we have rejected Christ.
But if we accept his conviction [confess and repent] and Him [the Word or Light] as Truth, his word stays in our heart to keep us from sin.
This is how we accept and "receive" Christ. We believe the Light that shows us our sins is Christ. We believe in Jesus within.
Look at the very next verses below.

•John in the next verses, continues: My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin.
And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous..
And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world..
Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.
He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him.
By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.1 John 2:1-6
Starting as spiritual little children, if we obey the Word that we hear him say to us or what he shows us in the Light,
(Jesus being the Light and the Word), and if we abide in Him, we are of the truth and we know we are in Him.
and God's love is perfected in us, resulting in us walking as Jesus walked, in love and truth.
We progress from little children, to become young men that have overcome the wicked one, to then become Fathers in the truth;
we grow up to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

The false prophets take 1 John 1:8 out of context: If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us, and say that proves no one can ever be without sin; ignoring the next statements and ignoring the context of the process of purification being referenced. To be purified you have to have sin to start, or purification is not even necessary. John is referencing sin that is to be destroyed, not carried to the grave.

This is how to kill (deaden, deprive of power) the evil desire lurking in your members: sexual vice, impurity, sensual appetites, unholy desires, and all greed and covetousness, for that is idolatry (the deifying of self and other created things instead of God). Col 3:5

•John continues: And every man that has this hope in him purifies himself, even as he is pure.1 John 3:3
Whosoever commits sin transgresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 1 John 3:4
And you know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. 1 John3:5
Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. 1 John 3:6
For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, [in us] that he might destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:8
The purpose of the Son is to destroy the devil and his works [sin] in us - if we go to him.

•John continues: Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him;
and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. 1 John 3:9
John repeats later for emphasis:
We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but He who is fathered by God protects him [the man],
and the wicked one does not touch him. 1 John 5:18
And His seed are the words he has planted in your heart, words that you have heard, the Word of God. Luke 8:15
So anyone born of God cannot sin, other than occasionally by accident, not deliberately or willfully - and this decreases to none.
Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and,
“Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” 2 Timothy 2:19
Jesus said, 'I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.' John 8:34.
If you are a slave to sin, Jesus cannot be your Lord. Jesus said himself, you cannot serve two masters! Luke16:13

The wages of sin is death. Rom 6:23

The acts of the sinful nature include sexual immorality, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, [greed], sorcery, hatred,
contentions, jealousies, rage, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, etc.
...those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Gal 5:19-21

You can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person..has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Eph 5:5-6

But, these sins do not make you unfit for God's help by grace to eliminate them.
So kill (deaden, deprive of power) the evil desire lurking in your members: sexual vice, impurity, sensual appetites, unholy desires, and all greed and covetousness, for that is idolatry (the deifying of self and other created things instead of God). Col 3:5

Jesus said, .. whatever comes out of the mouth comes from the heart, and this is what makes a man unclean and defiles.
For out of the heart come evil thoughts (reasonings and disputings and designs) such as murder, adultery,
sexual vice, theft, false witnessing, slander, and irreverent speech. Mat 15:18-19

These six things the Lord hates, indeed, seven are an abomination to Him: 1 ) A proud look, 2) a lying tongue, 3) hands that shed innocent blood, 4) a heart that manufactures wicked thoughts and plans, 5) feet that are swift in running to evil, 6) a false witness who breathes out lies, and 7) he who sows discord among his brethren. Pro 6:16-19

John said, Anyone who hates his brother has committed murder in his heart. 1 John 3:15

Jesus said, But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Mat 5:28 So, just restraining your desires is not enough - the desires have to be crucified - destroyed - removed.

But, Jesus came to destroy sin and the works of evil in us - if we go to him.
For this purpose the Son of God was manifested [in us], that he might destroy the works [sin] of the devil. 1 John 3:8
Paul said: You are the slaves of him whom you obey, whether that be to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience which leads to righteousness. Rom 6:16

Paul said: Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame. 1 Cor 15:34

[In the synagogue, Jesus reads from a scroll recording Isaiah's prophecy of 700 years earlier regarding the Messiah:]
The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners [freedom from slavery to sin, or freedom from burden of guilt?]
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to release the oppressed, [release from the oppression of slavery to emotions, bondages, passions, lusts, or just guilt?]
to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.
Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down.
The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him,
and he began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." Luke 4:18-21

Jesus said: I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. John 8:34

Jesus said: If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell. Mark 9:43-47. [He doesn't want us to maim ourselves. He is only illustrating how serious sin is. Jesus is desperately trying to tell us that to enter the Kingdom and escape hell, sin is not allowed, period. He knew false prophets with false gospels promising freedom to continue to sin would arise after he left. Changes in our heart through the missing cross to purity can take away the desire of the hand, foot, and eye to cause us to sin.]

Even the demons called Jesus the Son of God: When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?" Luke 8:28, 4:41, Mark 5:7, 3:11, Mat 8:29
You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! James 2:19

Paul said: The mind of the sinful nature is hostile to God. Rom 8:7

Paul said: Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. Rom 8:8

Paul said: For if you live according to the flesh (the sinful nature), you will surely die. But if through the power of the Spirit you are putting to death (making extinct, deadening) the deeds prompted by the body, you shall live forever. Because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. Rom 8:13-14
Paul said: So kill (deaden, deprive of power) the evil desire lurking in your members: sexual vice, impurity, sensual appetites, unholy desires, and all greed and covetousness, for that is idolatry (the deifying of self and other created things instead of God). Col 3:5

Jesus said: Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Matt 3:10
Paul said: The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Gal 5:22-3

Paul said: Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Gal 5:24

Peter said, And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? 1 Peter 4:16-19

John the Baptist said, Repent: think differently; change your mind, regretting your sins and changing your conduct. Matt 3:2

Paul said: Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. Rom 6:13

Paul said, But now since you have been set free from sin and have become the slaves of God, you have your present reward in holiness and its end is eternal life. Rom 6:22 [You are either a slave to sin or a slave to God; you can be a slave to sin and because of its deceitfulness, not know it. But if you are a slave to God, you have first been set free from sin, and then you are under orders, direction, and fellowship - with no doubt as to whom you are serving!]

Paul said: What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Rom 6:15

Regarding false prophets, Jude said: For certain men, whose condemnation was written about long ago, have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord. Jude 1:4. (They called themselves Christians, but they denied that Christ ruled them as their King and Lord directing their word and deed, or that it was even necessary).

Regarding false prophets, Peter said: even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given unto him, hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which some things are hard to understand, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness. 2 Peter 3:15-17

Paul said: Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling. Phil 2:12

Regarding false prophets, Peter said:
This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority.
They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. 2 Peter 2:10,13

Regarding false prophets Peter said: These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of sinful human nature, they entice people who are just escaping from those [lustful desires of sinful nature] who live in error. They promise them freedom, [to continue in their sinful lifestyle] while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him. 2 Peter 2:17-19

Regarding false Christians, Paul said: Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things. Phil 3:17-19

Jesus said: If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:31-32 [from sin!]
[He is not talking about the Bible - it wasn't even printed until 1516. He is talking about the word you hear, his voice.
The Bible can't make you free by studying it, but if you go to Jesus and listen to his voice and obey, he can make you free.]

Jesus said: So if the Son liberates you, then you are really and unquestionably free. John 8:36 [from sin!]

Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 1 John 3:4

Jesus said regarding Judgment Day: Matthew 7:21-23
Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven,
but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. [the disobedient will be banned from heaven]
Many will say to Me in that day,
‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’
And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

In Context:
Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.
Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. [eager for your money]
You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles?
Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. (see Gal 5:19-24)
Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven,
but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. [the disobedient will be banned from heaven]
Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name,
cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’
And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them,
I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:
and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house;
and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. [they listened, heard, and obeyed - they kept their soul an went to heaven]
But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:
and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house;
and it fell. And great was its fall. Mat 7:13-27 [they heard but disobeyed - so they lost their soul and went to Hell]

Notice how Jesus tells us that few will find the gate to heaven, because of false prophets [with a false salvation], so that many who think they are Christians, even having done miracles in His name, will be rejected, because they still sinned; and then he tells us the formula for success: hear his sayings, and obey them. He gives us a little more detail of the same formula for success in Luke:
But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?
For everyone who comes to Me and listens to My words and does them, I will show you what he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug and went down deep and laid a foundation upon the rock; and when a flood arose, the torrent broke against that house and could not shake or move it, because it had been securely built or founded on a rock.
But he who merely hears and does not practice doing My words is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation, against which the torrent burst, and immediately it collapsed and fell, and the breaking and ruin of that house was great.Luke 6:46-49

And how is one to do the will of the Father, thus to go to heaven?
And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!” Luk 9:3

The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, Matthew 13:41

In Context:
He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man.
The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one.
The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.
Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age.
The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend,
and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear! Mat 13:37-43

Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. Mat 23:28

And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. Mat 24:12

I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness. Rom 6:19

Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14

For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. 2 Thes 2:7

You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions. Heb 1:9

Peter said: For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? 1 Peter 4:17-19

Paul said: If, while we seek to be justified in Christ, it becomes evident that we ourselves are sinners, does that mean that Christ promotes sin? Absolutely not! Gal 2:17

Paul said: For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—Rom 6:6

Paul said: But God be thanked, that you were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Roman 6:17

Paul said: Being then made free from sin, you became the servants of righteousness. Romans 6:18

Paul said: For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom 6:23

Jesus said: I do not condemn you either. Go on your way and from now on sin no more. John 8:11

Jesus said: I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. Luke 15:7

Jesus said: In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents. Luke 15:10

Paul said: Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! But in order that sin might be recognized as sin, it produced death in me through what was good, so that through the commandment, sin might become utterly sinful. Rom 7:13

Paul said: but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. Rom 7:23

Paul said: Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. Gal 6:1

Paul said, In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry. Eph 4:26

James said: but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. Jam 1:14-15

James said: But you have insulted the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? Are they not the ones who are slandering the noble name of him to whom you belong?
If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, "Love your neighbor as yourself," you are doing right. But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers. James 2:6-9

Sin that Leads to Death Examined

John said, "If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life.
I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death.
I am not saying that he should pray about that." 1 John 5:16
Let's analyze scripture to understand the sin that leads to death.
After you have been purified, you will have real knowledge of the truth, and the pure see God; you will look into the face of Jesus.
If after purity, you willfully return to sin; not a sudden slip or an accident, but with pre-meditation sin, you are lost.
For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins. Heb 10:26.

But this only applies after purity, after looking into the face of Jesus, and which is knowledge of the glory of God, who is the truth. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Cor 4:6
In the past, after having been 'saved,' I stupidly committed some grievous sins; I asked if there was still hope for me.
His exact words to me were: "Until you look me in the face, and then return to sin, you can come back to me."

To look Jesus in the face, you have to be pure: Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Mat 5:8
Until you are purified, (and receive knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ Jesus, who is the truth), and then willfully go back to sin, your sins can be cleansed and forgiven.
So you still have the hope of purity. You still have changing grace available to you. You still have the chance to attain salvation.

I can testify to wonderful and marvelous changes that he has made in me through his grace, since my sins.
and the sins were committed after I had supposedly been saved.

I frequently hear from very depressed people who left their sect years ago, sinned, and now feel unworthy to seek again - not true!
These people had never been freed from sin. They had only been 'saved' and studied the Bible. You can't lose what you never had.
To be truly saved, is by the power of grace, to have you heart changed, cleansed, purified -so He controls your words and deeds.
They had never received the changing, purifying grace of God. Their only defense against sin was willpower, which fails.
(If they go back to their deficit sect's ways, they will only fail again; for without divine help, they cannot walk without failure.)

As you are being purified, you are of course not pure, so you still sin, even if you think you have been 'saved.' Saved from what?
To be truly saved, is to be delivered from sin.

Jesus' spoken words, that you hear him speak to you are truth. Thy word is truth. John 17:17 (the Bible is not his word, see more)
The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63
Jesus said, Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice. John 18:37
If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:31-32
Jesus said, So if the Son liberates you, then you are really and unquestionably free. John 8:36 [from sin!]

As you are being purified, sin still happens. If told to not xxx; but one day in weakness you xxx; you're not lost.
But if after you get so pure that you "have knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ Jesus, who is the truth and are free;"
if then you deliberately sin, like plan adultery and follow through, you are lost.
But if someone runs into your car, and you happen to curse, that is not deliberate or willful sin, and can be forgiven.

On this site, there are many examples of early Quakers, who had first been a part of one or more deficit sects without the formula for power over sin. After reading the Bible, being baptised, and supposedly being saved; they then returned to sin, with awareness of sinning. Then after hearing the true hope with the way of the cross, they conquered sin by the power of God, to become pure, holy, righteous, justified, and enter the Kingdom of God. Three of the many examples on this web site are: James Parnell, and Stephen Crisp, and Mary Penington, all available for your reading, (click on their names).

John said, All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death. 1 John 5:17

The Lord... is long-suffering (extraordinarily patient) toward you, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance. 2 Pet 3:9

All said and done, in Revelation, Jesus said: Rouse yourselves and keep awake, and strengthen and invigorate what remains and is on the point of dying; for I have not found a thing that you have done meeting the requirements of My God or perfect in His sight. Rev 3:2

As Paul preached: I declared.. that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance. Acts 26:20

This web site's purpose is to show how to become
free from sin
by benefiting from the changing power of God through the cross,
which leads to union with God in his Kingdom.
